Yeah, that's true. Even though this has nothing to do with the cats, I THINK another name for the goddess of the moon or somethin was Phoebe.

Yeah, that's true. Even though this has nothing to do with the cats, I THINK another name for the goddess of the moon or somethin was Phoebe. Phoebe was one of the original Titans, the giant sons and daughters of Uranus and Gaia. Traditionally associated with the moon, she was the grandmother of Apollo and Artemis. By Coeus she mothered Leto and Asteria. She received control of the Oracle at Delphi from Thetis, according to a minority of sources.

Creshosk u rox, he's totally rite. Its a common misconception that Usagi Tsukino LITERALLY means Bunny of the Moon.
Ok "Usagi Tsukino" (the writing of Sailor Moon's name) if you actually took those Japanese characters and put them in at translation.com or sumthin you would get something to the affect of
"Bunny Moon Field"
the "no" in Usagi's name is a homonym (sounds the same but different in meaning" to the "no" which means "of".
So Takeuchi was putting a pun on her name.
Thus: if you just said "Usagi Tsukino" to some Japanese person, they would think that you're saying Bunny of the Moon because it sounds exactly the same!
"no" and "no" have the same sound but different meanings. One means field and the other means 'of'.
So Creshosk is right (check a Chinese dictionary or a Japanese Kanji dictionary)!! ^_^

Well, I'd have to be a bad GMod not to point out that the name 'Usagi Tsukino' is actually a misconception of the westernalisation. Her REAL name, 'Tsukino Usagi' is the pun. In the pun itself, 'Tsuki no Usagi', the 'no' (indicates possession or part) binds the 'Tsuki' (moon) to the 'Usagi' (bunny) in a mild form of possession (or part of it).
Yes, the literal name, 'Tsukino Usagi', as written in Kanji, means something like 'Bunny Moon Field' or whatever, but the fact that it's not a decent part of a sentence would already give away that it's actually a pun to something.

I read somewhere recently that originally DIC had completely different english names that had nothing to do with the Japanese ones, but they decided not to use them. I remember Serena was Victoria and Amy was Blue. I forget the rest. You could probably google it.
-Laura (wish my name was even pronouncable in japanese)

Could you imagine a girl with blonde pigtails and odangoes named Victoria?! Gah. And Blue ... If I had a bomb, I'd drop it on DiC.

Usagi Tsuniko!! actually it's Tsuniko Usagi if you want it to be technically japanese... It really does mean Rabbit of the Moon.... O.O Usagi sucked really bad during the SuperS series.... she was so grouchy and causing problems all the time... her and Chibi-Usa... it was really annoying, I hated SuperS I like Usagi alot better than Serena. I like the name Serena but I like Usagi better. I didn't like SuperS either. It pretty much was based on Chibi-Usa. My opinion anyway.

Better than Ami's would be name of "blue" and Rei's would be name of Dana, Minako's name was going to be Carrie . . and Jupiter was Sara. . .

God, my head hurts. The dub names they were orginally going to use sound awful. however, I got a question about one of the dub names :Hotaru. why did they keep hers the same? (BTW, If I remember correctly, Artemis and Selene are both arguied to be the goddess of the moon. Can't really remember who won, or if there still argueing over it. Hecate if I remember correctly ( I got into a greek fetish two years back ^_^; is the godess of the dark moon and something else....)
