In case you haven't heard, pres. Bush is trying to make a national amendment banning same-sex marriage in the states. It still has to be passed, though...
Personally, I think gay marriage shouldn't be banned. It's a right for ALL Americans, not just hetero's. To take away this right from a certain type of people is unconstitutional. Anyway, tell me what you think!

I agree. Why should it be banned? It's not really fair.
People say that it's ruining the sanctity of marriage. So is getting married in Las Vegas better? Is marrying someone for their money better? Is marrying someone then getting divorced better?
What is so wrong with two people of the same sex, who love each other dearly, having the same rights as a heterosexual couple?
Answer - Nothing.

Where I live, A same sex couple can get married, but State officials cannot not reconize it.

Agreed to the fullest. They don't have any reason to do this other than 'the bible forbids it'. As far as I can remember my history classes, the pelgrims went to America for 'freedom of religion'. Isn't choosing NOT to be a christian also part of that? Of course, one can argue whether or not 'marriage' is a christian ritual, but if they say it does, then why is polygamy, which is quite common amongst other religions, forbidden? This is one of the many reasons I can't stand Bush and his republicans.

Full agreement over here, too. Another reason is that people get married in other religions as well, so it wouldn't be constitutional at all - they believe that they [homosexuals] can be happy for the rest of their lives together, just as other religions do.
Also, Bush once brought up that the definition of marriage included "between a man and a woman." Guess what, Bush - not EVERY dictionary has the same definition for EVERYTHING. Plus, "same-sex" was added to "marriage", so there isn't really anything wrong with that to begin with. Specifically, it is the joining of two people of the same sex rather than just a man and a woman.
Sorry, but these thoughts (and others) have been inside me for the longest.
This is why I'm not as fond of Independence Day, because we have been losing a little more freedom every year or so.

Unfortunately, it isn't even about their marriages that it is being banned, Insurance companies don't want to support A Union between Homosexuals, because Insurance companies consider homosexuality as a "Risky Lifestyle" and as such the companies put pressure on Politicians, because if they have to deal with that, their pockets are less full of money, so thus, the Ban on Gay Marriage. Plus, it makes an Excellent diversion tactic from the administrations worse projects... (Yes Worse then what is already known)

I'd like to see some proof of how it their lifestyle would be 'risky'. For some reason I continuously hear pplz say that STDs/HIV/etc. is more common amongst homosexuals, that they're more prone to get other deseases, etc. But I haven't even seen the statistics once.
The only heightened risk for a homosexual is getting beaten up/killed for his preference.

Seriously. There are also statistics of there being a major number of homeless youth who qualify as LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer).

Okay, and how do those numbers compare to the numbers of homeless youth who qualify as non-LGBTQ? Other than that, why are they homeless? Did their parents kick them out? For what reason?

The numbers don't compare, but it's still a large portion.

Don't get me wrong, I don't see too many risks to homosexuality, but this is what the insurance companies see, The whole "Homosexuality is evil" thing is just a ruse, it is a misdirection to the real reasons... Politicians want money. If Politicians recieved more money from homosexual groups then from insurance companies, then Gay marriage would NOT be banned. Mark my words, if that ever happens, you'll hear on the news, "Gay marriage not immoral, ban's are being lifted, etc etc etc" The fact is, if Homosexuals gave billions of dollars to politicians, then there would be no ban, period. And I loathe knowing this bullshit with every ounce of my soul... -__-

Wait - wait for it..... wait for it.... here it comes. wait.......
OMG AMERICA IS EEEEEEEEEVIL WTF IS WRONG WITH THEMMMM.
Do you honestly think that American people are going to let the government permanantly ban things like gay marriage and abortion??
So America is dominated by rabid Christian Republican rich nutbags. SO WHAT? Do you think this kind of crap is permanant? The great thing about a democracy is that it's always changing.
South Dakota in banning abortion is under serious fire from other states and even the *gasp* republican nutjob dominated supreme court. It's not going to last. Neither will bans on gay marriage. Gay marriage is being legalized in numerous countries - England and South Africa among them.
WHETHER people would like to believe it or not - the world is moving into a liberal mindset.
SO OMFGOD CORRUPT AMERICA. We got a shittyass president and we will for a few years yet- well once we get through the baby boomers (all the people who are forty or older now) we'll get generation X'ers into office and THEN pot will most definately legalized along with all that other liberal crap that people get so paranoid about.
P.S. I'm liberal and I shat on Ann Coulter's picture last week in case you were curious.

And the problems with this country won't be fixed so quickly, it only took bush a year to undo all the good the clinton administration had done, The conomy was in the toilet in record time, our country was floundering by the first year, and the idiots of this country were so stupid it took them six damn years to realise bush was a f**king moron.
