Thoughts?
Well, I write the stuff so obviously I like it, LOL! I'm currently writing a very serious Buffy series with another person - it's a bit of a spin off from the original show, in a way.
But I digress, LOL!
The purpose... fan-fiction. What kind do you prefer? The "lovey-dovey" kind? Does it have to be "canon" (ie. true to the original series it's from) or do you like the characters to be a bit wacky? What do you think of Slash? And what do you think of the infamous "Mary Sue"?

I enjoy romance stories to a point, and I LOVE canon stories, especially the alternate universe type of fics.I don't have a problem with Mary -Sue stories, they can be fun to read,as long as the character isn't doing anything that is preposterous.

LOL that's true. It can be a bit irritating if that's the case I like alternate universe type stories as well, especially if the character's alter ego is like a complete opposite, hehe!

I tolerate Mary-Sue's if they are GOOD mary-sue's.
I hate Mary-Sue's who are freaking "OMG I AM PERFECT." They have to have some serious flaws and crap wrong with them - just like anyone else.
I do like canon fan-fiction alot better then just weird random stuff. Unless of course that weird random stuff is hilarious.

I kind of have one at the moment in my BtVS story, LOL! But she's not perfect at all. She has serious issues, like bad depression and a slight drinking problem - so yeah, she's no where near perfect - hopefully that would make her tolerable to you

Um...what's mary sue? Is that the one where the originaly character is just like a god(dess) that can never be stopped and everyone needs her help pretty much?

Pretty much - it's also a character who is loosely or directly based on the author

Ok, those get annoying quickly. I'm currently working on (well, still doing the details in my head, amid several other stories. Way too much going on in there lol) a Sailor Moon one with an original character. I want to strike a balance between being powerful and weak, but at the same time, paranoid I'll end up making him this god like mary sue or whatever character. I want to make him have to rely on the sm characters rather than the other way around, so also paranoid I'll make him too weak...meh, I have to actually start writing first, I guess, before worrying about that lol.

LOL I understand the dilemma. The main character I'm writing is a Slayer (of course, as it's a 'Buffy' story ) but she's also a developing witch - in that she wasn't born one, but she has absorbed powerful magic through a spell. So! To make it more balanced, I've made her utterly hopeless at witchcraft, and when she gets overly emotional, her magic is uncontrollable, LOL!

Sounds interesting, though Buffy never interested me too much. This guy, Kale, is a seventeen year old with cryogenesis (the way I understand it, cryogenesis is the ability to create ice from nothing, almost, and manipulate it, like Sub Zero from the Mortal Kombat series and Kula from the King of Fighters series). In terms of raw power, he's nowhere near moon's power. He kind of would fit more into the Street Fighter or King of Fighters series instead of Sailor Moon the way he uses it (I guess), basically like how the people in those games use chi/ki (take your pic). It drains him more than a simple punch or kick would. I always take combat weakness into consideration when I make characters (if it is a combat based story/rp or has it in it). I never really think of social weaknesses and flaws.
I've made the mistake that apparently lots of writers make (both fan fiction and regular fiction): doing way too much research. I've had the idea for a year at least, but just did way too much research for the characters, plus busy with real life, that I only now have an idea of how to start lol. Meh, oh well.
As far as fan fiction goes, I like action with occaisonal humor. Unless stated to be alternate universe, I hate it when people make the characters the exact opposite of how they were in the show for no reason at all. More important than that though is the overall story behind it. Action sucks if it is just mindless, no actual story behind it, you know?

Hehe yes, I agree with that - I need a decent storyline to go along with the action I like the alternate universe thing... it's somewhat amusing when the "original" character has to deal with their "alternate" self LOL! I was actually involved in a Harry Potter RPG years ago that went into the alter scenario, and the alter of my main character was a total psycho I just made her backstory different, which explains why she's the way she is. Annnyways. I do a fair bit of research on things myself, eg. the BtVS thing - It's set in the UK, so I need to make sure I use the correct locations etc... so that if a person from that area was to read it, there wouldn't be heaps of mistakes

Um...what's mary sue? Is that the one where the originaly character is just like a god(dess) that can never be stopped and everyone needs her help pretty much? Mary-Sue is a perfect version of the author. For me,I can read any fic except the non-canon yaoi and yuri fics, and the ones where the characters are out of character with no explanation for it.
