Just to stir things up, I'm not sure if this is a genuine piece or just fanmade, but if it wasn't Takeuchi-sama's idea to put Minako and Rei together, then what's Rei's arm doing there? Opinions appreciated, facts registered.

Designs that she toys with shouldn't be taken as canon
after all there was the whole thing with Mars Jadeite in a one shot picture. .

I think it is the actual cover, but there could be several reasons why they are positioned like that.
One of them is that it helps the composition of the piece, because of how Rei and Minako are positioned it makes your line of site flow down the taller line of senshi and to chibi-usa easier.

i don't get what you mean but any way!! Look at how Mars is holding Venus. It's been debated for awhile now on whether Takeuchi-sama's intentions with Minako and Rei are similar to those with Haruka and Michiru ...

There are only two reasons why Rei's hand is there. Either it was digitally altered by a fan or Takeuchi-sama was just toying with the idea. I don't think that Takeuchi-sama would put them together, nor do I support the idea of Rei/Minako or Makoto/Ami.

If someone digitally altered that, (s)he's a master photoshopper. Believe me, there's NO trace whatsoever that it's been shopped. And Takeuchi-sama did play with more ideas than just Michiru-Haruka.

Sorry..... Just a suggestion..... Don't go from a college level art class where you are looking at the composition of artwork to making comments on a non art forum......

I don't think it has anything to do with the live action because I saw this picture long before anything was said about the live action... Since Rei and Minako are like the sub-leader and actual leader, respectively, I think that would be a reason. I don't think it is fanmade, however...

Cancer_Star knows a bit about art from the sound of it. It won't make much sense to a person who's not familiar with it. But it has to do with how subconciously your mind travels along the picture, and where your eyes are drawn. . there are some rules about a good picture which has to do with balance of the picture so one side doesn't seem heavier than the other and color harmony so that the image doesn't make you go yick. . . Hmm . . I'm really not sure how to explain it . . . sorry.

Exactly. In a picture you have to have balance so it doesn't look bad, but there is also how your eye is made to look at the piece. The way a picture is set up is what makes your eye follow an almost completely set path though it.
