That's exactly why I'm sick of people bashing DIC so much. Some of the fans who complain about it owe DIC ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) I much rather prefer the orignal Japanese to the dub, but at least DIC introduced it to lots of people. Well, this is where I differ from you guys. DiC never proved anything to me, other than the fact that they're bad at dubbing. I'm from the Netherlands, and Sailor Moon was only aired here after I found out about it. Of course, my SM knowledge went no further than looking up dirty images on google, but the (very) few episodes that were aired here didn't exactly cause anyone to become a fan, lest of all me. So I can say what I want about DiC, what I've heard of them, how others react to them, compare it to the sub, which I have seen, and draw my conclusions. Fair enough, no?

Oh yes we owe Dic for giving us a substandard hack job that promotes homophobia and racism, and breeds really ignorant people. . . I'd be into Sailor Moon despite the dub. I got into Sailor Moon because of a friend who was familiar with the original. I owe DiC nothing but resentment for doing such a bad job that yeilds people that think things that are just not true.

I never said that I personally liked. I said I prefered the originals myself.

I mean we get alot of people that think the dub is the way it is and don't even acknowledge the sub. Call me cold or callous but I don't think that spawning hundreds of people filled with misinformation is a GOOD thing. . . but meh, that's just me. I'm not sure how I feel on the matter. While I am appreciative of the acknowledgement of Sailor Moon's existence by the uninformed dubbers, I'm not sure if its better to have less Moonies if the majority are more informed or if its better to have more Moonies who are less informed. Sort of a Quality versus Quantity thing.

Right on, Cresh, and that's why we're here: to enrich the quantity with quality.

I agree that we shouldn't be mis-informed, but personally I think they just didn't have much of a choice when it came to editing out things like Haruka and Michiru's relationship. It obviously wouldn't have gone down too well... On the other hand, why they edited out things like the music I shall never know ![x_x](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/dead.png)

That dub was not edited to hide all the homosexuals. And it came over just fine. I fail to see how one companies homophobia is justified.

I do thank them for introuding but other than they did a bad job on it. I understand that they made it for younger kids , which is good and fine but you know....
If Saban would have done it, I would not even be on this forum nor be friends with some of the people I am friends with. You would probably see boards and sites with THAT SABAN CRAP on it. Thank God(well thank god saban didn't do it) that Dic did it. Naoko Takeuchi would have been........well very mad!

I've never seen Fushigi Yugi so I can't really comment on that... Sailor Moon was aimed at a young audience though (I'm not sure about Fushigi Yugi). It was aimed at younger girls. There's no way they would've gotten away with it. Angry parents would've called to get the show off the air, which means no Sailor Moon for anyone. Alexa, by the racism thing I think he means the fact that a lot of things in the dubbed Sailor Moon was Americanized.

Racism? Where in Sailor Moon is there racism? The blatent denial of it being japanese by removing as much Japanese from it as they could. Changing names and places to hide what it was, removing Japanese writing to further hide its origin as if saying that it has no right to be japanese. I've never seen Fushigi Yugi so I can't really comment on that... Sailor Moon was aimed at a young audience though (I'm not sure about Fushigi Yugi). It was aimed at younger girls. Sailor Moon was not originally intended for little girls it was intended for teenagers. It was originally on the same level as Fushigi Yugi. Both originally appearing in shoujo manga. DiC decided to change Sailor Moon to be for little girls instead of the teenagers it was originally meant for.

Which explains why the original anime was Rated 13 and up and why it appeared in a shojou manga intended for teenage girls doesn't it? ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

When was it rated 13 and up? Do you mean that was the rating on the uncut DVDs that have been released in the USA? If so, I wasn't talking about equivalent of the rating in the west. In Japan it was rated for girls aged 4 to 12. The anime Sailor Moon wasn't for teenage girls in Japan, and I don't understand why you brought up the manga since we were talking about the DIC dub and the ratings concerning the anime...
