Sailor Mars...
Where to begin?
Its always difficult finding a starting point... its easy street from then on. I just zone out and my fingers take over and when I wake up... a 'full blown' post magicaly apears onthe screen!
Well, I begin by appoligising for the delay in getting this post up... I have been a little busy as of late, but now I'm ready...okay, here goes.
Sailor Mars' charactor is quite often sterotyped by her temper. The numerous arguments Raye has gotten into with Sarena are amble evidence of the long standing feud between them that began with Darien and moved onto to leadership of the Senshi. The two are constintly yelling at each other for lazyness (Sarena) and becuase of overbaringness (Raye).
That's one way of looking at it at least.
I personaly believe that Raye and Sarena argue with each other so much...not because they are so different, but becuase they are so simular. Raye is a very driven women and highly competitive in every undertaking. This can only result in problems.
The relationship between Sarena and Raye is best viewed as if the two were sisters. Always trying to come out on top, always trying to prove themselves to be the best sibling to someone else. Raye's dating of Darien can be viewed as an attempt to get under Sarena's skin.
But is there more to it then that?
Raye's dating of Darien from what I have observed was merely a 'Wow! He's sooooo... cute!' The fact that Darien and Sarena were one step up from being enemies at the time merely was an added bonus. Raye not only got a 'hunk of a boyfriend' To quote SailorStar ;D But she was also able to score a point in the sisterly feud going on between the two.
However the constand sibling rivilry is only one side of any brother or sister relationship. The other is love, and a desire to protect that other brother or sister.
I have two younger brothers... with these two younger brothers I have created something I call the 'Big Brother's Code' The code states: ' I the older brother, to hereby tease, beat-up, make fun of, and put down my younger brother. However to recieve the aforementioned privilages I hereby sware to pound anyone into the concrete who attempts to infringe on my sole right to the articles mentioned above.
Raye would give her life for Sarena, Sarena would give her life for Raye. It doesn't get much more brotherly of sisterly then that.
Raye's dream is a most interesting topic to discuss, on the surface it doesn't apear so, but if you 'dig a little deeper' a wonderous world pops up. Need an example? Okay.
Raye's dream is to become a good career women, however she is by far, the farthest away of any of the Scouts from reaching her dream. (Except maybe Mina, but I personaly believe that she's closer then Raye) Raye spends all of her free time helping out around the temple. Can you
easily imagine the 'Seller of Love Charms' (yes I know that's Chad's job...roll with me here!) All dressed up in her white and red pristess' robe's running a business? Now remember I said 'easily'. Its possible, but its a little bit of a streach. Raye really hasn't even started working on her dream...now why do you suppose that is?
I think it has to do with two almost unnoticed faucits of her personality, her obediance and her respect for authority.
Her obediance keeps her working hard at the shrine. She listen's to everything her Grandpa Hino says and works hard there everyday. Her respect for authority is sometimes overshadowed by her ambition, which is very strong. However for the most part, if you show a genuine ability for leadership, she will follow.
But how do these two idea's keep her away from persuing her dreams? They tie her two the two objects that make her dreams nearly immpossible to achieve. The first is the Shrine, if she stays there for the rest of her life I sware she wont become a career women. The respect for authority has to do with the shrine as well, but it also has to do a little with Sarena and the Sailor Scouts. Raye's attachment to their orginization chews up far to much of her free time for her to prepare to accomplish her dreams. So although her dreams are not immpossible, they are in a hard to reach position.
Well, that's it for now, I think that went rather well don't you?
