Wow this thread really has sparked my interest! On the same note, (this whole Sailor V/Moon debate here), why do you think that the Princess of Venus (Sailor Venus) was given a cat related to the Moon? Wouldn't it make more sense to have a cat born of Venus? (ie with a Venus sign on his forehead)? The Venus-Moon connection is just soo interesting to me I can't help talking about it XD Luna and artemis don't come from the moon, they come from the planet Mau.

Crap XD You're right. (Mau explains why they talk and why Tin Nyanko told...them they were traitors or something...XD! I don't really pay attention to anything other than Venus hahas no I do, I just forgot) Hm...but wait...if they're from Mau why do they have Moon marks? They must be connected to the moon for something, because obviously those moon marks aren't fake like Sailor V's. (Didn't they help the senshi get their memories back after Beryl's battle?...with those cool crescent marks?) Why then? Do you think they got moon-ified or something? Did Queen Serenity burn those things in like they do with cattle ( )? OMG maybe she did! XD Doesn't Usagi comment that it looks like a bald spot? While on Usagi it's obviously not a bald spot...because its on her skin and her skin isn't bald because she doesn't have hair there. Wow...ok then...I'll drop this for now because this doesn't stick to the topic ^^

It could be like our earth cats and the 'M' that can be seen on some of their foreheads.

I think the 'does this all connect' factor is a bit too small for me to believe that it's a cresent moon. I see it like this:
We're going to make a Sailor V comic. So, we're going to choose a suit (sailor suit), a design for the girl herself, etc, etc. Eventually, they'll end up with a few designs for the girl. Sailor V. Hey, that could be an abbreviation for Sailor Venus. Let's have the planet Venus for a theme! Great idea, her name will be ... uuh *brainstorm brainstorm* Binasu! (Katakana for Venus). Binasu? (Kanji - Hiragana - Katakana conversions) Minako! Sounds cute! Last name? *brainstorm brainstorm* Ai no! (Japanese for 'of love') Because the Roman goddess Venus was the goddess of love and beauty. Works for us! Ai no Minako! Wait, Japanese only have two parts of a name ... Aino Minako. Sounds good to me. Alright, does she need any trademarks, signs, w/e? Sure, let's put something on her forehead. Like what? Uuh, a V mark? V for Sailor V. Let's give her a guardian cat that also has the V mark on his forehead, and let's call him Artemis, god of the hunt in Greek Mythology.
*few volumes down the road*
I just had the GREATEST idea! Let's make a senshi for ALL the planets! ... *silence* ... *sweatdrop* Okay, here's what we do: we make a Sailor Mercury, a Sailor Venus we already have *points at a picture of Sailor V* a Sailor Earth, a Sailor Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Alright, but how, what, who and where? *brainstorm brainstorm* We've already used Greek and Roman mythology in the story of Sailor V, can't we use some more of those elements? Sure thing. Have you ever heard of the story of Serene and Endymion? *At this point, Takeuchi-sama gets all mushy over how romantic the story is 'n all* Let's put that in, but who of the Sailor Senshi will be Serene and who will be Endymion? *brainstorm brainstorm* Didn't the story of Serene and Endymion happen on the moon or something? *brainstorm Brainstorm* Sailor Moon! And Endymion ... well, he was human in the story, let's make him a human too. But wouldn't it be better to have Endymion fall in love with Sailor Earth then? After all, they're both human then. Can't we scrap Sailor Earth? Uuh ... *brainstorm brainstorm* Sure thing. Instead of Sailor Earth, we'll have Sailor Moon. Now, what are they gonna look like? *several shrugs* I know! *points at one of the rejected Sailor V designs* One of them can look a bit like Sailor V. But what about the V mark? *brainstorm brainstorm* Well, if you turn the mark a bit, what does it look like? *all look and tilt their head* A cresent moon. So we have a Sailor V now *points at THE Sailor V design* and a Sailor Moon *points at one of the rejected Sailor V designs* What about the rest of the Senshi? Well, we could make new designs for them. Okay, sure thing.

Well, I figured that there were more pplz actually executing the project. I think it's rather improbable that Takeuchi-sama created all of the mangas herself ... though it's possible. There had to be some executive team I think.

She does get a different mark when she turns to Sailor Venus, namely the female symbol. This is just a coincidence though, in fact, the symbols on the Senshi's foreheads were the symbols also used for the planets in the solar system.

Well, the big difference is that her cresent moon has the opening on the top and the Black Moon Family has the opening on the bottom. They also have dark marks, while Sailor V's is like gold.

I don't think it's all that unbelievable that Sailor V would have a crescent moon on her forehead. In mythology and astrology the moon is often associated with women and the feminine side of things. This fits in with the whole theme of girl empowerment that Sailor V and Sailor Moon share. Venus represents love, emotion, and feminine beauty (heck, the Venus sign is even used to represent women.) There's an obvious connection to the moon there. There are other "moon" references in Sailor V. Just look at her attack, "Crescent Boomerang" and her henshin, "Moon Power, Transform." Plus she has to recharge her compact by placing it in moonlight, and she often appears standing in front of the moon. Even the name Artemis comes from a moon goddess. (Though I guess some of those could've been added in later to make it fit with the BSSM storyline. I admit that I don't know all the details of what chapter came out when, so I'm gonna have to trust Sailor Venus on that one ^.^)
As for Venus being a decoy for the princess, I always found that part of the story intriguing. I like it because it reinforces Venus' role as both the leader and Usagi's best friend. I don't really think the fact that she looks different would really detract from her role as a decoy, since in the beginning no one knew what Serenity looked like. I've heard some people theorize that back in the Silver Millenium Venus was a clone of Serenity that the queen made as "spare parts" in case the princess ever needed an organ transplant or something. o.o; But I think Serenity has white hair in the manga, so they don't look nearly as similar. I can't really see them as twins...

Remember, we're talking about heriones and baddies here, a typical epic story romanticising and throwing in a decent amount of 'magic', rather than ER. Clones for spare parts 'n all, as far as I know and use my common sense, that's a bunch of baloney.
