I dislike the dubbed version a lot. The basic reason is that they took a good anime and tore it apart, making it a kids' show. They took out episodes because of 'questionable content', gave the characters sucky names that don't mean a darn thing when the normal names were perfect, they gave the characters whiny voices (especially Serena, ugh), they took out the general culture and replaced it with the Western culture, and I could go on.

I think the dub gets too harsh a title. I enjoyed it. I thought Sailor Mars, Venus, and Uranus' were perfect for the characters. Every single music piece, from the title music to that jingle they play whenever they show Rubeus' hideout is better than the subbed version (imo).
True, a lot of stuff was edited out, which was a bummer, but the dub was pretty good. Imagine this: if the dub was the full, unedited, original version of Sailor Moon, would you have enjoyed it? I can say "yes". When I first viewed Sailor Moon, I wasn't aware of "subs and dubs edits". I thought it was a straight translation of what was the original, just in English. And besides a couple of panties and stabs, what's really different? Not a whole lot....

You know, this brings to mind the whole fuss over the CATS video-people were bashing it because it cut out "Growltiger's Last Stand",and some even went as far as to try to make others hate the video, too. They would not listen to me saying"if it weren't for the video,I'd of never become a CATS fan."
In the case of the Sailor Moon dub issue,I'm glad to say it's not as bad as the CATS video issue-I've not seen any graphics or sites promoting the bashing of dubs. But I must say that if it hadn't of been for the Sailor Moon dubs showing on television,I'd of never become a Sailor Moon fan.I'm glad the dubs aired on TV.
As for the panty shots,I don't know what the big deal is.No one complained when several butt-shots were aired in the CATS video..no one complains about cartoons that contain crude humour(like snot and farting)..no one complains about the Looney Toons characters using dynamite constantly...so why should people complain about panty shots?

To be honest, I think I remember seeing like 1 episode waaaay back in the day of the dub version & I didn't care for it too much. When Hawk introduced me to SM by having me watch the Stars saga, I was totally into it! I don't know if it's the feel or what, but the sub is definitely better in the long run. It just seems to flow better...

From my point of view, I wouldn't have gotten into the series at all if I hadn't seen the dubbed version, because that's all that was available to me until I looked into it more and found out about the original. The dub was what got me into Sailor Moon. I know that the edits are severe and in part very ridiculous, but without it, I wouldn't be a fan, and this message board wouldn't exist

retrokid made a good point. Lots of American kid shows have some things that were cut out in the American SM dub.
Take Fairly Oddparents for example, I've noticed a WHOLE lot of gay references. Such as when Timmy's dad is trying to enter the ''Miss Dimsdale'' competition so he can ''right the injustices that a man can't enter a beauty pageant'' and he actually WINS the competition. And in the judges, a man actually held up a sign to him saying ''CALL ME''. That's a gay reference, and it's a kid show. There are a lot of gay references in Fairly Oddparents.
And what about all the crude humor in ''Ed, Edd, 'n Eddy''? Lots of characters in that kid show are getting jumped in practically every episode. Especially Eddy, who has been beaten up by probably every kid in the culdasac.
I rest my case...

I do notlike it much for it got me lost when they came to the part of the moon kingdom story and how serenity life was lived on the moon. They made changes too much and also I did not like the cousin idea with Haruka and Michiru much for I like the girlfriend to girlfriend better and made more sence too.

She sounded like an old hag trying to sound like a 14 year old.

Okay, I admit:Serena's voice is an exception. But other than that one, the other voices were great. Serena's voice sounded decent in SMS:The Movie though.

At least in the dub version you can tell EVERYONE'S voices apart; I have a time trying to decipher voices in the sub version. They all sound the same to me.

I presume a Japanese fan would have problems deciphering the dub voices. The biggest problem with that is that they're not speaking YOUR language, so it gets hard to recognise the voice. Besides that, I take it you saw the dub before the sub? That may just have something to do with it.

Well the dubs should have stuck to the original story and not cut out all the parts from the original and told the true story.
