I think this is an interesting topic for discussion To be honest... I'm "over" the whole thing. It was interesting in the beginning, but now it's getting old. I didn't mind Australian Idol the first couple of times, but the 3rd one was boring - none of the contestants appealed to me at all and I just stopped caring. I was never into Big Brother - the idea of watching random nobodies sitting around a house doing nothing is rather... pointless... Survivor seems contrived to me and I find it boring as well. The Amazing Race is like some kind of weird blockbuster movie that just doesn't do anything for me either. So yeah I guess it's safe to say that I hate it Grown to hate it even more that it's just on so much and takes the place of decent TV programming. Over here, Big Brother is on the same channel as The Simpsons - so it gets higher preference - which means we don't get to see any so called "new" episodes of the Simspsons until BB is over Basically I just find it irritating. So I want to know who likes Reality TV and who watches it - what appeals to you about these shows? Why do you watch them? What gets you watching in the first place?

I despise reality television shows... It puts humanity's obsessions into perspective in my humble opinion. Nothing but greed, and celebrity worship.

They're not even celebrities, LOL! That's the most annoying part. Who the f**k cares about these nobodies? They have 5 minutes of "fame" and then disappear into obscurity again (thank god!) What's more annoying as that shows like this replace decent television programming - because they're cheaper to purchase and seem to make shite loads of money. Ooooh gawd Why not repeat classics? There are so many fantastic "older" shows that could probably get new fans if they were shown at good times (not after 10:30pm thank you!) I hope Reality TV dies... a horrible bloody death

Well I like Amazing Race because I like to see all the different countries, Survivor because I want to see who wins the big money and Big Brother because I want to see what happens w/ the challenges and relationships. The other ones I really don't watch. American Idol is like annoying, The Aprentince is like I don't like Donald Trump, etc. Yes, I agree that these people are not celebrities, they are like people like you and me, like ordinary people and that is maybe why people like watching because they want to see what happens next, the relationships, who wins, etc.

I don't see the appeal in that though. I don't want to watch a group of people "like me" (hah yeah right! Most of those people are nothing like me - thank god!) sitting around doing nothing, or being in silly little competitions. Being voted off so that the station can rake in more and more money because people actually call in I like to "waste" my money on things that benefit me... LOL! I dunno. The more I see of it, the more it grinds my gears. "Get me something to throw at the television!"

LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one I guess I shouldn't be so "full on" in my comments, because I don't want to offend people who might like these shows. But honestly I just can't understand why you'd even want to watch them! I tried and it just didn't work (which I'm glad of - ok I admitted to Aussie Idol but that was actually somewhat tolerable and interesting because I love music)...

Fact is, I don't watch a whole lot of tv. Especially because most of the time it's 5 minutes tv program - 15 minutes commercials. And the programs themselves are mostly commercial too (BB, Idols, etc.). Producers of such programs hope for 'herd behaviour' ('everyone votes on Idols, so I will too'). I consider myself more or less immune to the big marketing machine.

Well to be honest, I did vote for some contestants on Idol, but that's because I thought they deserved it - they were quite good musicians and I had respect for them. But I wouldn't anymore. I think I'm just over the whole thing - plus I don't want to waste my money Well, not on that anyway, LOL! Like I said - something to benefit me, because I'm a selfish bitch Nah...I've given money to charity before... They deserve it much more over TV stations I don't watch much TV anymore either. There's just not a lot of good programming on to warrant it. So I watch my DVDs instead

Well, you got the right motivation. I too don't want my hard-earned pennies to end up in the pockets of already-bulking-rich producers. And yes, if that makes me a selfish egoistic bastard, I give to charity on an annual basis

That's good then, heh! I paid the RSPCA $27 for a pen I don't use - they suckered me in, LOL! But they're deserving I suppose... to help those poor ickle animals that have been abandoned by lousy owners or whatever...

I think it's called MSi (or at least, here it is), but even if it is MS, I associate that abbrev. with MicroSoft The illness is called Multiple Sclerose (SP?)
