I like the original names way better then some "invented" names... Here in Germany they didn't changed the names, with the exception that Usagi is called Bunny, but in one episode in the SuperS series Luna said that Bunny would stultify all GERMANS with her childish behaviour. Hello? Germans? Well we all know that Germans wear Kimonos all the time and school uniforms and... argh.... that sucks... Why the hell do some adults think that children would be to stupid to understand that there are other countrys and continents in the world?

Why the hell do some adults think that children would be to stupid to understand that there are other countrys and continents in the world? Agreed. But then again, some would be thinking something along the lines of 'hey, we don't live an Japan, we live in Germany/US/Netherlands/Spain/wherever'. I guess they were trying to prevent that little bit of confusion. I agree when you say they should have left it though. Then again, Germany is the country of the dubs. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger gets a dub in his movies.

I never really thought about it. Molly is kind of a weird name for a girl named Naru. I would think they would use something similar to the original. She kinda does look like a Molly though.

I hate my name ... but alas, Molly sounds a bit like the dutch word 'mollig', which means somethin along the lines of 'chubby'. Hence I don't like the name. Next to that, Naru just sounds so phreackin good.

Molly is the 'pet' form of Mary, Mary being the English form of Maria, which was the Latin form of theGreek names Mariam or Maria (the spellings are interchangeable), which were from the Hebrew name Miriam. The meaning is not known for certain, but there are several theories including "sea of bitterness", "rebelliousness", and "wished for child". However it was most likely originally an Egyptian name, perhaps derived in part from mry "beloved" or mr "love".
Her name in Japanese . . well the Osaka part the two kanji mean "big" and "hills"
Naru is harder to pin down as it is hiragana and not kanji. . .
"Naru" could mean "to change", "to be of use", "to reach to", "to become", "to bear fruit", "to sound", "to ring", "to resound", "to echo", "to roar", "to rumble".
Interestingly enough if her surname were aranged so that the O part was first and then the saka part it becomes "Handai" which is "Osaka University"
Of course I still don't see any logical connection to "Molly" from "Naru". . .

Heh, and when you've finally figured out the Molly-Naru thing, I have another one for ya: Melvin-Umino.

Heh, and when you've finally figured out the Molly-Naru thing, I have another one for ya: Melvin-Umino. Umino is actually his Family/surname. His family name has the same naming convention as the inner senshi. . . "Sea Feild" quite litterally. . . Melvin is a fairly suitable name as it is possibly from the Old English name Maethelwine which meant "counsel friend". Part of the problem is that Without a whole lot of extra data to these characters like there is with the senshi (the whole planet thing) it's harder to figure out why they were named what they were.
