Rei never tried to "steal" Mamoru. When Rei was flirting with Mamoru, Usagi and Mamoru were not yet a couple. They didn't even get along all that well until the episode where they learned each other's identities. Then poor Rei is hit with the news that the man she loves has been with another girl for a thousand years. But she takes it gracefully, all things considered, and she's still willing to die for Usagi. I'm of the opinion that if it came down to it Rei would even kill Mamoru to protect Usagi. Like the other senshi she has unwavering loyalty to her princess even at the cost of her own happiness. And that brings me to my next point: Rei doesn't want a "happy, normal" life. Several times she makes it clear that even if offered the chance to live normally she would choose to fight by Usagi's side. (A particularly touching scene in the SNES video game comes to mind.) Of course, all of this is a moot point if you just read the manga, where Rei doesn't even like men and Usagi loves Mamoru from the beginning Er, but enough of my personal biases. This has been another long-winded post by Yume! <3

Hmm... that is actually a good point... tho there were a couple confrontations about it in the earlier eps where Usagi would catch Rei drooling over Mamo-baka... hmm... I do have to say tho that in the first season when Mars dies I can't help but cry... even to the last she is willing to protect Usagi... even when she doesn't have enough strength to stand... she is still able to defeat the enemy... *snifs*

Well...technically she didn't defeat the enemy. Unless you're referring to her death in the first series against the Doom and Bloom Girls.

Yeah, well, I think it was a good thing to happen. You could say that it increased Usagi's determination to save the world and purify Sailor Galaxia. Plus, it made everything a little more realistic.

Well it's sad when any of the senshi die really... but if u ask me, I think that Usagi and Rei have a connection that goes beyond what the other scouts have with Usagi. That is why they are so determined to help each other and fight for one another.
The first series alone... after you think Mars is dead she manages to grab on of the last Doom and Gloom girl's vines and blows her away.
And then in return when Mars dies Sailor Moon wants to fight to get her and everyone else back. It is actually really touching if u think about it.

I wish it were that way for the live action. Usagi and Rei hardly fight at all...

I wish it were that way for the live action. Usagi and Rei hardly fight at all... In the Live Action, it's Rei and Minako that fight constantly. But even that seems to be some sort of coverup for ... 'deeper' feelings?

True, but it's just not the same. You can see how Rei and Usagi could quarrel in the live action, but it just doesn't happen. Only once, and it wasn't enough, did Rei make a remark about Usagi being the princess. Minako wasn't exactly a good "substitute" for Usagi character-wise, in my opinion.

That's probably because you'd expect Minako to be representing the Minako from the anime, and the LA Minako was nothing like the Anime Minako. She's a preppy biznatch with an attitude she shouldn't have.
