Again as someone says, In the Anime, Mamoru and Seiya are quite alike. But as I stated in another thread, Seiya is a horse that cannot bare two saddles.[/qoute]
And why would Kakyuu be able to bare three saddles? Because saying Seiya isn't right for Usagi because she should be with Kakyuu, would mean Taiki and Yaten are free, right? But they have the same kind of 'duty' towards Kakyuu as Seiya has.
Also, that would mean that Sailor Senshi in general 'should be with their leader'. On what level? Because this would insinuate that the (Inner) Senshi should be with Usagi at some level. And if it isn't an intimate level we're talking about, but more a level of duty to protection or to fight by her side, then that would mean Seiya is free on an intimate level, wouldn't it?
He/She cannot be loyal to her/his princess and still remain with Usagi without forsaking what Seiya was originally intended for.
True, these are the facts. The Seiya-Usagi relationship is a 'what-if'. Furthermore, my gf lives in the US, I live in the NL. Long-distance relationships don't always have to be impossible.
I doubt Mamoru ever originally intends to break Usagi's heart at all (that was in the R season.). I think what he did for her in that season is kind of like that song from Blue October- Hate me.
And I qoute(more or less):
"Hate me so you could know what's good for you."
After all, Mamoru is going off his dreams that have yet to proven wrong- in the anime. So if her hating him keeps her alive he'd do it.
But that would effectively label Mamoru as a wimp, wouldn't it? Mamoru has more faith in a bad nightmare to come true than in his own abilities to protect the love of his life. Even worse, he has more faith in a nightmare than in the Sailor Senshi's abilities to protect their princess.
Not to diss him or anything, I can see where he's coming from. But really, he should have used his brains.
And what does his fashion sense have to do with anything? Remember this Anime takes place in the 1990s. Does anyone remember the fashion trend then? Plus, this is JAPAN we're talking about. Fashion tastes are different in any country.
Why should only Mamoru (and perhaps a few other meaningless characters) be exempted from 'our' standards of fashion? Because as far as I know, the rest was pretty much up-to-date fashion-wise. Of course, there were some outfits throughout the show that we'd rather not have seen (and mostly on Usagi too), but still.
Mamoru is a rich guy. He lives alone in a classy apartment, drives a car/motorcycle, goes to college/university, etc. He has enough money to buy some fashionable clothing.
Plus, fashion isn't what makes the person now is it? That's a bit surface even for me.
No, but it DOES tell us something about the person wearing the clothes. If someone wears all black, you'd label them as a goth, wouldn't you?
Anywho, Seiya can only live for one person. That's Kakyuu-hime.
Then what about Taiki and Yaten? See my above reaction to the 'two saddles' note.
I liked the Seiya in the manga better for her sense of duty and how, as a leader, she deals with things.
In the Anime, Seiya acted a lot like Mamoru did in the first Season in teasing Usagi- even using Mamoru's words, 'Odango Atamta' even if he/she cut off the last part, that is still Mamoru's word. I find it a little copy-catty.
Seiya never met Mamoru until the very last episode. How could he possibly copy-cat Mamoru? Usagi has an odango atama (a meatball head), how can you blame Seiya for making fun of that while teasing on her?
Anime Seiya never impressed me much. Oh sure, he can transform into a Sailor Suited warrior and use a medium to attack with 'Star Serious Laser'.
But if you kick that thing out of reach or destory it, how would SailorStarFigther be of any use?
Little, but not nothing. In the episode where he and Usagi go out clubbing, we see him, untransformed, jump out of the way to avoid the enemy's attack (can't remember which one, thought it was Iron Mouse). Throughout StarS, we see pplz targeted and they have no chance of dodging at all. This proves that Seiya has at least some strength of himself. And since transforming into a Sailor Senshi means a boost, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be as defenseless as you're trying to make her out to be.
While with Mamoru, he's more physical as Tuxedo Kamen. and his roses Stops EVERYTHING.
Everything? I remember a SuperS episode (thought it was SuperS, could have been S) where there was a rolling enemy and they rolled RIGHT over his rose, flattening it in the process.
Another thing:
Usagi is a kind hearted person and she feels that Seiya is good to talk to because he has a guy's perpestive on things (since she assumes that's a he.)
Is that why she goes clubbing with him, even though she was horribly misunderstanding his intentions? No, I think there's more to it than 'a shoulder to cry on'.
I don't think it's love. I really don't. It takes time for real love to happen, not a few measly months.
I would have to agree with you here, however, we do see some similarities between the first season and StarS:
Mamoru teases Usagi - Seiya teases Usagi
Mamoru calls her Odango Atama - Seiya calls her Odango Atama
After awhile, they start dating
No wait, that only happened in StarS, Mamoru just kept picking on her until their past was revealed to them.
It took Mamoru time to fall in love with Usagi and Usagi to him.
No, it took Mamoru the memories of their past lives to fall in love with her. Usagi was already crushing on him the moment he showed up as Tuxedo Kamen.
I'm not saying she wasn't attracted to him, but...Seiya just isn't for her.
Agreed.
Or maybe why I dislike the pairing of Seiya and Usagi is because of how people do it. It's silliness that drove me to highly dislike the Anime character before I even saw it.
Okay, I can see where you're coming from, but I hope you do realise that this is the wrong reason to not like someone/something. Fans always exaggerate, alter or put it in a different perspective to fit their likings more. If you really want to dislike them, dislike them for their contribution to the original series.
After seeing it, I still don't like Seiya much, but I don't hate the character. I can see Seiya get together with Kakyuu, who is similar to Usagi in some ways.
Again, what about Taiki and Yaten?
