rough translation of the article provided by wasurenagusa_rose@yahoo.com :
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. Next time in Live Action. Starts from October 4 TBS
Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon, whose anime became a big hit, is going to appear on television as a live action drama this fall. It has been six years since the manga and the anime ended. But its popularity not fading, it has continued being a top brand targeted towards girls. What is the live action versionfs goals and highlight, and 20th centuryfs biggest ggirlsf hit characterh Sailor Moones charm?
ESchool life, love to be more important than gactionh
Live Action Sailor Moon is in the production of TBS series CBC (Nagoya City), going on air from October 4, every Saturday 7:30 to 8:00. The popular gKamen Riderh seriesf Toei is the production partner. Staffs of successful male (boy)-targeted live action dramas have also gathered.
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moonfs original work came from the comic that was serialized in a shoujo (young girls) manga magazine. The leading character, Usagi Tsukino and a group of junior high school girls would change into senshis dressed in sailor suits type of costume and fight.
So far, it has been animated; turned into a musical and in the end, live action drama was all that was left. CBC producer Takeshi Okazaki says, gThere are no other character targeted towards girls that was as popular as this one. Live action is going to be played out by humans, so it is much easier for children to empathize. I donft want it to be called as a recycle of the anime or the musicals. This is a new development.h
In the anime, non realistic scenes wouldnft give off feelings of weirdness, but it canft be that way with live action. Thatfs why, this time, compared to action scenes after the henshins, more emphasis is going to be place in their love and school life, their fashion(normal) lives before the henshins.
The cast for the five senshis were chosen in audition, ages from 14 to 17. The actress for leading character gUsagih, Miyuu Sawai appears in TBSfs drama series gKids War part 5h, but the other four almost have no acting experiences. If anything, they are more active as models for teenfs magazines, they are expected to fill the roles of fashion leaders that the viewers will look up to. gIkemenh (handsome young guys), who are currently a must in children shows and targeted towards (young) mothers is (are) also scheduled to appear in the show.
There are a lot of live action shows such as Kamen Rider and Sentai Series that are targeted towards boys, but not too many for girls. Director Ryuuta Tasaki, who also directed gKamen Rider 555h now showing in (japanese) theaters, said gNot to be limited to female viewers, making it acceptable to the public is the job of this old man director. With the know-how of children action shows cultivated by Toei and the rapidly advancing CG, we could mix both.h
Original creator, Naoko Takeuchi says gI really love Toeifs Himitsu Sentai Go Ranger, so when I first heard of this plan, I have thought it would be nice if it is to become live actionh, showing her expectations toward it.
EStill popular even after 10 years. Creator reasonshBecause it is strange and has a strong impacth
Born 12 years ago, we have gathered together Sailor Moonfs history and put it into a list. Even when the comics and the anime show and ended, the musicals, currently in its eleventh year, have succeeded the fans. The anime show that had started re-showing three years ago has reproduce new fans, the videos, the whole series, are still in a noticeable place in video shops.
Love, friendships, wars; a lot of things were inlaid in the story of Sailor Moon. The attracting costume, transformation wish, and, like the Morning Musume, the story evolves as characters with different personalities multiplies one after another. Takeuchi analyzes the reason for its big hit in a few words.
gThe industryfs men would say that it is because it is girlish, it has dreams etc, but I think that things that become big hits are, to explain in a few words, are because they are strange and have a strong impact.h
@ The childrenfs world is fast becoming unisex; girls read shounen (young boys) manga and it is the age where they play TV games. Plus, girls graduate early from fiction; they enter the world of reality, of fashion and idols. Still in demand even after 10 yearsASailor Moon is a miracle hit that happens once in 10, 20 years. Also, there is no other series yet that have exceeded it shows the difficulty of the shoujo market.
;D

Press Conferance with Naoko Takeuchi and Producer for CBC:
To quote Naoko :
Manga author and creator Naoko Takeuchi: The serialized version [manga version] of Sailor Moon ran from 1992 to 1996 and the ideas and images that it developed on people have never ceased nor floundered. It has gained a gigantic following over the years and the work has a mysterious power which simply draws people into its pages- the kind of fantastic story that you would never expect [from its appearance.] I am personally very grateful to Sailor Moon for allowing me to be known around the world [she literally says 'conquer the world'] and to find a wonderful husband, even though I once decided "This is enough, its over."
The fan letters, fan calls, and various insistent offers never stopped coming in from around the world. Wherever I went in the world on vacation I would find Sailor Moon goods and Sailor Moon cosplayers and I would see the delight on their faces. Considering how much children around the world, and even adults at times, wanted to see more of the work, I thought, "Alright! I always wanted to see a live action version made. This time we'll conquer the world with a live action version!" and so I told them 'lets make it live action.'
Girl's desires have no ends, it seems. Supporting this star and its peoples are girls. Even when they are big or small they are still girls. Listen, everyone, the source of a girl's power isn't dreams or love, its her desire! The girls whom I wanted from the audition were those who did their best to show their desires. Because if they were able to express their desires well, the live action version would be a huge success.
And now a word from the TV producer :
Producer for CBC Okazaki Takeshi: Making a big title such as Sailor Moon into a new live action form is quite a challenge! Because you are using real people, viewers may think that the characters are off from what they should be.
"When I grow up I want to be Sailor Moon!" "I prefer Sailor Mercury!" Since I consider these thoughts to be young girl's dreams, I hope that I am able to increase the amount of these dreams by just one more girl.
For this reason the TV show's heroine is a girl for whom you can be sympathetic to as she has normal goals. She wants to be cute, a good dresser, to fall in love, to do well on her tests. But when she transforms she becomes strong and cool... and she is confused by this!
In regard to the five senshi, at the auditions each character was chosen selectively. Because of this, each consecutive TV episode should shine brighter than the one before. Please watch them attentively with a gentle heart.
And lastly the superviser (director ?)
Supervisor: Tasaki Ryuuta: Until now the power of the imagination has been brought forth in constructing society, creating businesses, developing wealth, or performing the arts. But when you look at Japan now, you get this cold and pale feeling as though people have long ago begun awakening from their dreams. [We think he's saying something along the lines of what Miyazaki said when Spirited Away came out in Japan; that the girls of Japan are no longer the typical 'dreaming' girls of anime fantasies and are too cynical.]
When you consider that these Pretty Guardians live in present Japan and are most susceptible to the power of dreams, you the feeling that there is a deeper meaning behind their reappearance at this time, and can begin to gain confidence. I want to see Tsukino Usagi's dream power used to its maximum potential. This is my current ambition.
