Oh this is something me and my brother talk about some time. Why don't the Outer's ever get their own show? (Oh man he only watches the show for Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.) But aw wouldn't that be cool though. Outer Senshi spin off. I'd watch it. Or read it if it were a manga instead...

I'd be sure to watch it if it:
-was dubbed
-kept the original names(Haruka,Michiru and Setsuna)
-it showed Haruka and Michuri as lesbians(and NOT cousins!)

Perhaps ... but when I read this news about purity balls, I figured that maybe I've been giving the US a little bit too much credit (of course, there's plenty of pplz who arn't this conservative). But yea, I'm pretty sure they're becoming more openminded about homosexuality. I just don't see it happen towards children.

Gah screw that. Keep it subbed instead of dub. The dub change too many stuff and doesn't come anywhere close to what they really say. I rather watch them speaking japanese with subtitles over dubs any day...

I think dubbed would be much better-there's a whole range of different types of voices in dubs;In the subs you just have the high-pitched squeaky voices. Most of the Japanese voices are pretty bad in my opinion, but there are a few that are good.

Heh, I guess that's subjective then, I love the original voices (thought I must say, there are some I get annoyed by). But yea, the dub voices just made me cringe.

I don't know, I think a lot of English speakers think the Japanese voices are better because they wouldn't be able to recognize bad acting in Japanese. If the intonation was funny or the wording was weird they wouldn't know the difference.
And what, may I ask, is so wrong about purity balls? >>; Excuse us for not wanting to have promiscuous sex in high school and risk getting pregnant before we can even drive a car.

I don't know, I think a lot of English speakers think the Japanese voices are better because they wouldn't be able to recognize bad acting in Japanese. If the intonation was funny or the wording was weird they wouldn't know the difference. That's true as well: after translating, more than a few name puns/wordplays/etc are lost (I see this a lot happening on the US tv shows I see in the subtitles). Subs usually have a second set of 'subtitles' in the top of the frame explaining the actual wordplay or pun. And what, may I ask, is so wrong about purity balls? >>; Excuse us for not wanting to have promiscuous sex in high school and risk getting pregnant before we can even drive a car. Pplz in EU don't want that. But we don't require a 'purity ball' to promise it Besides that, I'd seriously doubt the statistics will show a significan decrease in teen pregnancy, and having had a purity ball is yet another promise a certain percentage of girls would break. Apart from that, I think it's a beautiful example of how conservative the US really is, and that's the point I was trying to make (without actually judging the concept of purity balls in a positive or negative way).

...Sorry I was so snippy earlier. Yume was in a bad mood for some reason -_-;
[Stupid stuff deleted. You can read it below in the quote if you really want to...]
Anyway, back semi-on-topic, I have definitely seen badly written and badly cast anime. Several old giant-gundam shows come to mind... ><; But I guess in some cases it's just a matter of things getting lost in translation, such as when they make the English phrase really roundabout and wordy because they're trying to match the mouth movements or because the different grammatical structure makes it not "fit." Like the scene in the Stars manga where Seiya says "suki desu", which they translated as "I like stars." Since English won't let you drop the subject in that situation, the whole reason behind Usagi's blushing is lost. But how else could they translate it that would make sense?
Personally, I usually prefer the Japanese voices because it seems to fit better with a show taking place in Japan, and they seem to have more emotion. Then again, the English voices were more varied and I think some of them suited the characters better. I'm kind of back and forth on Artemis's voice. Sometimes I thought the original sounded too deep for a cat, and too old in comparison to Luna. And the Japanese Snow Kaguya's voice gave me the creeps, though I never heard the dub to compare. Queen Serenity's dub voice was also very nice. (Beryl's was awful, though! Ahh! T_T )
Wait... what was this topic really about again? Oh yeah, the outer senshi! ^^; Well, if there was a spinoff, I'd want to see more Pluto! Pluto always gets shafted. I guess it's because she had an extra season to have the spotlight to herself. But she and Saturn always get overshadowed by Uranus and Neptune. I wish she'd at least change her clothes once in a while. And poor Saturn-chan needs a henshin sequence.

...Sorry I was so snippy earlier. Yume was in a bad mood for some reason -_-; You're forgiven I can take a snap or two. Anyway, I figure purity balls are just like marriage. The concept in itself is nice, even though half of the people will break the promise they made a year later. But I blame the people for that, not the institution. Really, I think the fact that most of them don't keep their promise shows that the US is quite morally loose under the surface. A truly conservative country wouldn't allow divorce or fornication, and they certainly wouldn't let a woman in the White House. They'd just take her outside and stone her. But that's a whole different rant... All I'd like to say is, on the women in the White House matter, that's not conservative, but plain discrimination based on gender. Then again, perhaps it's for the best actually ... I wonder what would happen if Hillary Clinton got prez ... would she be Democrat 3 weeks of the month and then 1 week be a Republican/Dictator/Tyrant? Yea yea, I know, sexist comment ... sue meBesides, didn't we decide earlier that they are lesbians as well as cousins in the dub? So this whole discussion is moot. Anyway, back semi-on-topic, I have definitely seen badly written and badly cast anime. Since English won't let you drop the subject in that situation, the whole reason behind Usagi's blushing is lost. But how else could they translate it that would make sense? "I like you" was too hard for them to come up with? Same amount of syllables, and considering this is the manga we're talking about (I presume the translation was also the manga?), it would fit the text bubble too. Personally, I usually prefer the Japanese voices because it seems to fit better with a show taking place in Japan, and they seem to have more emotion. I'm talking about voices like Ami-chan and Luna, those were horrible in the dub. Wait... what was this topic really about again? I agree, more Pluto! *has a gf whose favorite Senshi is Pluto*

I think Ami's voice was good in the dub-her Japanese voice was horrible and squeaky, and didn't fit her personality at all. Her original voice would've fit someone like Rini,IMHO. People shouldn't get worked up just because some Japanese character has a British voice in a dub..there's just no point to it.

But a voice must fit all of the character, not just the age. You can't expect a character to be fully rounded or believable if they only had voices to fit their ages. A voice must fit age, personality and what the character is generally like. If Ami's voice only fit her age,she would come across as just another generic teenager. Her US dub voice fits both her age and personality, plus it makes her more believable as a person. The British accent suggests that her father may of come from England.
